Why did Billy Wiz choose Belarus?

For many years Billy has entertained children who arrive in the UK from Belarus with a magic show at their leaving party. When you see how grateful these children are when they receive a gift, even the smallest of gifts like a balloon model, it fills your heart with mixed emotions.

It really is wonderful to see how appreciative they are, but then you realise how little they have back home. Not just with toys or clothes, but also with their health. These children still live in areas contaminated from the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster of April 1986.

Billy decided to visit Belarus for the 20th anniversary of the disaster. On his first day, he visited the children's cancer hospital. Five floors dedicated to just children with cancer related illnesses. After just his first day in Belarus, he knew it wouldn't be his last visit. He's now hooked on making these children smile. Walking into a hospital room with four children lying on beds, sad faces and no atmosphere was awful. But by the time he left each room, he had all the children laughing and smiling even though he couldn't speak the language.
